The Member
Plus program was one of my more interesting jobs, in that it was
completely voluntary, and actually provided me with experience
that has helped me with my current work today. In case you didn't
know, this program was implemented by Microsoft for there older
PC gaming service, MSN Gaming Zone in 2000. On June 19, 2006,
the Member Plus program was officially discontinued by Microsoft.
For the full history, you can view this Wikipedia
entry.
The role of a Member Plus ultimately varied, but it involved a
combination of tournament hosting, chat moderation and technical
support. Volunteers were allowed to partake in whichever aspects
of the program that they desired, so I mainly focused on technical
support. I learned how to effectively communicate with people
who weren't necessarily experienced with the technical aspect
of computers and computer software. The 7-year experience has
ultimately helped me hone my troubleshooting and tech support
skills, whether via e-mail, on the phone, or in-person. |
